Bantam House League

Skill instructions and drills are done under game situations. Roles of players are starting to form (offensive player more than defensive player, or vice versa). Skills taught include cradling, catching, checking, passing, shooting, pickups, face-offs, picks, screens, faking, power-play, and man-short. Goalies make all decisions in starting the offense. On line changes, the ball goes to the opposite side of the players bench. All players on offence are in motion when required. Players are taught how to play without the ball. Specialty teams get a lot of work. Team defense and player responsibility is stressed.

Players are provided with a team jersey.  Goalie Equipment (chest protector and shin pads) and goalie jersey is provided to each team by BMLA.  When it is your child’s turn to play in net, you will have bring along a pair of hockey pants to wear with the goalie equipment.  Your coach may offer to keep a pair in the goalie bag although sizing could be an issue.

Remember our Referees are young children too and they are learning as well.  They may be a little nervous too.  They may not always make the right call, but they’ll learn by their mistakes.  Please treat them with respect.  If they weren’t there, we wouldn’t be able to play this game.  Also, one day your child may want to referee.

Please enjoy watching your children play lacrosse.  Always provide positive encouragement in the car on the way to and from the game and in the stands.
